As Samsung, we would like to take you through our progress to date and proudly showcase the leading role we have played in the last few years, in support of the global efforts aimed at building a sustainable future.
In commemoration of this year’s Global Earth Day, we would like to re-affirm our commitment to embedding sustainability in all our businesses and our product strategies, so that we can protect the planet, while also improving our customer’s daily experiences. Our Environmental Strategy: “Everyday Sustainability”, which was launched in 2022 is a comprehensive effort to ensure that we joined global efforts to address climate change and resource challenges in co-operation with other key stakeholders. Samsung’s collective efforts towards a sustainable future are based on the belief that our environment is our future. Guided by our environmental management strategy and driven by our intentional performance in the areas of People, Planet and Principle, we have set some specific mid-to-long-term goals and implementation methods that seek to contribute toward the preservation of our planet. The four main objectives that drive our environmental strategy include: Climate Action, Circular Economy, Clean Tech Ecosystem and Sustainability.


As a socially responsible, global electronics company – we remain committed to achieving net zero emissions for the Device eXperience (DX Division) by 2030 and company-wide including the Device Solutions (DS Division), by 2050. In addition, as we continue our journey towards a sustainable future and our commitments to helping the world achieve its goals, we are very proud to share some of our remarkable achievements to date:
 GHG Emissions Reduction Relative to BAU (Scopes 1 and 2) – 10.16-million tons CO2e, a 59% increase compared to 2021.
 Transition to Renewable Energy by 31% – 11% increase compared to 2021 and the transition is complete at all DX business sites in Korea and manufacturing sites in Brazil, India and Vietnam.
 GHG Emissions Reduction in the Product Use Phase – 914, 000 tons CO2e. Thirteen (13) product categories in 2022 (refrigerator, air conditioner, washer, dryer, microwave oven, vacuum cleaner, TV, monitor, PC, HHP, tablet, wearable and base station), compared to BAU – baseline year: 2021

 Water Re-use – 116.59-million tons, a 29% increase compared to 2021.
 Zero Waste-to-Landfill Mark (Platinum) – in 12 business sites.
 Use of Plastic with Recycled Resin – 98, 826 tons, a 200% increase compared to 2021 and a cumulative amount of 409, 000 tons from 2009 to 2022.
 E-Waste Collected – 600, 502 tons, a 9% increase compared to 2021 and a cumulative amount of 5.69-million tons from 2009 to 2022.


Indicative of these noteworthy achievements, our belief remains: it is our responsibility to make positive and lasting impacts throughout our business’ value chain and in society. To this end, our efforts to mitigate carbon emissions have already commenced. Case in point – we have already been using innovative technologies and maximising resource circularity in collaboration with customers, suppliers and various partners. This is done across the life cycle of our products; from design and development to manufacturing, usage, take-back and recycling. As a company, we strive to continuously take the lead in developing technologies that are environmentally responsible, while enabling an
ecosystem that fosters clean and responsible technology. We collaborate with universities, research institutes and start-up communities to find solutions for global environmental challenges and invest in innovative ideas. By using recycled and recyclable materials as well as recovering resources from discarded products, we are continuing to drive progress toward a circular economy. In addition, in line with our Better For [Your Life] campaign that is underpinned by three main pillars: Better For [Energy Savings], Better for [Your Interior] and Better for [Your Day], our range of home appliances are able to integrate smart features, saving time and energy while ensuring convenience and comfort. Whether it’s a sleek television offering immersive entertainment, a refrigerator that keeps food fresher for longer while
using less energy, or wearable devices that promote healthier lifestyles, our products are seamlessly integrating into daily routines, enriching lives with their blend of functionality and style. By using all of our innovative, eco-conscious products – our customers are already playing their part in ensuring that we all create a more sustainable environment for the future. With all these global environmental efforts achieved together with our partners – we would like to reiterate that we remain steadfastly committed to continue participating in activities aimed at making the planet a cleaner and more sustainable place to
live in, for generations to come.
