Nestled in the heart of Wellington lies Diemersfontein Wine Estate. Diemersfontein Wine Estate has been been part of three generations of the Sonnenberg family. What started as a family retreat, is today the home of the world-class Diemersfontein range of wines, countryside hospitality, backed by a story of upliftment and empowerment. Can I just state that Diemersfontein has been voted the best Pinotage in the world, and I can 100% vouch for that. We were given the opportunity to do a wine tasting of our choice and to enjoy some lunch as well. Now before I give you a review of our experience I have to tell you what a special place Diemersfontein Wine Estate holds in our hearts. You, see it is the place we got engaged.
Diemersfontein has changed a lot throughout the years. They have revamped their space to a more contemporary modern feeling, that includes wine tasting, PROE , which is a Deli that offers a selection of cheese, charcuterie, preserve, fresh bread, olives and an array of spices. What makes this Deli so special that each product is produced within the Boland town of Wellington. I love the fact that Diemersfontein supports local small businesses, especially in the times we live in now.
What to do?
Firstly make sure that you make a booking and contact them directly here tel:+27218645050. Check out the Wine Tasting menu It is open seven days a week from 10h00 to 16h30. Johann and his team of tasting advisers eagerly await your visit! Whilst visiting their tasting room, you are able to sample their full range of wines, including the Diemersfontein Original range, our Flagship Carpe Diem range, as well as the Thokozani Range. Each of us enjoyed five different wines.
My top 4 would be the Sauvignon Blanc 2021; Chenin Blanc 2021; Pinotage Reserve 2020 and because I love collecting dessert wines, Sweet Sue NV. After our wine tasting and purchasing a few bottles to take home, we indulged in what has got to be the best burgers we have had in a very long time.
It is very seldom that you can feel the love that has been put into creating a meal for you. After our meal, Chef Zenobia spoiled us with an ice cream tasting that she makes by hand. It is definitely something that I suggest you book when you visit Diemersfontein Wine Estate.
Diemersfontein Wine Estate also offers accommodation for guests who would like to spend more time on the estate. Another suggestions is, to do a wine tasting. Choose a bottle of wine and pop into the Deli to purchase some cheese and meats and enjoy your wine surrounded by beautiful views. It is also child friendly with a play area so the kids can enjoy themselves too. We will be heading to the restaurant soon, to try the beef fillet by Chef Zenobia. Can not wait!
