When we entered our cottage and the very first thing I spotted was the Hand sanitiser. Our cottage was spotless and that made me feel at ease immediately. I didn’t realise it before, but since lockdown I have been keeping my breath in, and I immediately started feeling more relaxed, taking in the beautiful scenery and the coziness of the cottage.
Bergsicht Country Cottages offers comfortable self-catering accommodation on a beautiful farm setting in the lovely town of Tulbagh. The farm hosts five units each with an indoor fireplace and outdoor wood-fire heated hot tub. The one cottage called Sunburst is the one exception as it has a standard plunge / splash pool. We stayed in the Ruby star Cottage.
This self-catering farm cottage is equipped with everything that you need. When we arrived at the cottage, I realised that I had forgotten to pack the following items:
Coffee, tea and sugar, as well as salt and pepper. Both Hubby and I immediately dreaded having to drive to a store, as we just wanted to stay in our cottage the weekend. To my surprise, these condiments were provided for.
Something else that also impressed both hubby and I was that wood was provided for us. The indoor fireplace was ready to be lit and there was enough firewood outside for the braai as well as the wood fired hot tub.
Cottage Features
The cottage can comfortably sleep 2-4 people. Ideal for 2 adults and 2 children. The main bedroom has a queen size bed with electric blankets that were very much appreciated, especially during this time of the year. All beds are fitted with premium linen. We always travel with our camping cot, but this was another item we forgot to pack, so you can just imagine the relieve when we saw the beautiful baby cot, complete with cot linen in the main bedroom. The bathroom is fitted with a bath and large shower, with a wash basin and separate toilet. For those hot summer days, the main bedroom is fitted with an airconditioner.
The open plan living area has two single beds, also fitted with premium linen as well as electric blankets. There is a central dining table and a Jetmaster fireplace situated in the middle of the room that makes for cozy winter evenings. The kitchen is equipped with everything that you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I usually travel with my own non stick pan, this time I didn’t and I did not have to! There is a microwave, oven, gas stove, toaster and electric kettle. For those wanting to catch up on movies, there is a flat screen TV equipped with DSTV accessories- you just have to bring your own DSTV decoder, smart card, power cables and remote control. Outside you will find a sheltered patio with a built in braai with the beautiful view over the Winterhoek and Witzenberg mountain ranges.
The boys had a blast playing in the water.
The weekend was a time to relax and to just enjoy the joy on the kids faces as they explored and ran on the grass.
We made the mistake of starting a fire for the hot tub quite late in the afternoon, which turned out not to be a bad thing as hubby and I enjoyed the hot tub under the stars after the boys went down to sleep. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Wifi access is fast and effective, so you wont miss out on that at all. Here are some of the other farm cottages.

One of the things I always do is read through the guest book of places we visit. The comments were filled with only love and appreciated and I share the exact same sentiments. The rooster was quite popular as one of the things guests would miss. The attention to detail and putting you the guest at ease is one of the things that I appreciate most about our stay. The farm is also ideal for walks and cycling, so feel free to bring along your hiking shoes and bike. Bergsicht Country Cottages is definitely one of Tulbagh’s gems.
