All good things come in twos, so feel inspired and salute Women’s Month and 50 years of Cap Classique with a pair of Steenberg’s finest.
There can be no better way to celebrate the diversity and achievements of South African women than with the much loved Steenberg 1682 Chardonnay Cap Classique and its blushing soul mate, Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique.
“We are delighted to celebrate Women’s Month with our vibrant Brut and Rosé Cap Classiques and hope to inspire everyone to do the same,” says Cellarmaster Elunda Basson, who has earned her stripes as one of the country’s most accomplished masters of Cap Classique.
Widely recognised as one of South Africa’s finest Rosé bubblies, Steenberg 1682 Pinot Noir Cap Classique strikes an elegant pose with its blushing hue and beguiling scents of raspberry jelly, wild strawberry sorbet, red apple skin and toasted brioche. Its ultra-fine mousse lifts the raspberry-like aromas and the creamy texture, in perfect balance with bright acidity, lingers long after the last sip.
Steenberg 1682 Chardonnay Cap Classique is a richly layered Blanc de Blancs that matures for up to 18 months on the lees to reach its full potential. The result is an alluring Cap Classique with Granny Smith apple, candied lemon rind and white peach wafting from your flute. The palate is lively with zesty acidity layered with lemon cordial, honeyed nectarines, toasted croissant and pistachio.
“Our Brut Chardonnay Cap Classique exudes freshness and fruit purity with great finesse and complexity,” adds Elunda who considers this style of bubbly for which she has garnered the highest accolades, her personal favourite.
Perfected by time in the tradition of French Champagne, it takes a minimum of twelve months for the base wine to be transformed into a vibrant Cap Classique. The magic happens during a second fermentation in the bottle where the lively bubbles are created and captured to form a fine mousse, allowing the bubbly to develop its signature yeasty character.
With the hallmark of quality of the iconic Steenberg swan embossed on every bottle, you will want to sip these uplifting bubblies throughout Women’s Month and well into spring and summer. Be sure to raise a glass on Cap Classique Day, Wednesday, 1 September when Steenberg joins fellow producers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of South African bottle fermented sparkling wine.
Visit the Steenberg Tasting Room and taste the full range of four delicious bubblies at R150 per person. Continuing the theme of celebrating South African women, works by local artists will be exhibited in the tasting room during the entire month of August.
