Roodeberg Dr Charles Niehaus 2019, the 9th vintage of the signature red blend named after the wine’s illustrious founder, has brought home international Gold from Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2023.
The jewel in the Roodeberg crown, the wine excelled amongst 7,500 entries from nearly 50 countries at this year’s awards widely acclaimed as a global benchmark for wine. The 30th edition of the competition was held in Croatia.
A fitting tribute to Dr Niehaus who pioneered the cherished South African wine brand over 70 years ago, this super-premium Roodeberg has evolved since its maiden vintage in 2010 into a superbly concentrated and integrated wine with fruit purity and complexity at its core. The award winning 2019 vintage is a harmonious blend of Shiraz (40%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Malbec (20%) and Petite Sirah (10%).
“The wine is all about selecting the best of the best from the vineyards, the individual bunches and the berries, down to the finest barrels for the final blend. Our goal is to produce the best super-premium blend that our vineyards can deliver,” says Roodeberg winemaker, James Ochse.
Rich and juicy with great depth and fruit concentration, the wine erupts in your glass with aromatic layers of blackcurrant, mulberries and plum enlivened by hints of violets. It is generous with a well-integrated, grippy tannin structure that rewards with an intense and lingering finish.
